Privacy Policy
Your data, plainly
Zen IQ is a study app used mostly by students aged 13 to 17. This page says exactly what it keeps and why, in words a student and a parent can both read. Last updated 15 October 2026.
Who runs Zen IQ
Zen IQ (zen-iq.net) is run by its founder, a student in the UAE. We decide what happens to your data, so we are responsible for it under the UAE’s Personal Data Protection Law.
Questions, requests or worries: privacy@zen-iq.net, or Send feedback in the app (You, at the bottom). We answer within one month.
Who Zen IQ is for
- You must be 13 or older. Zen IQ is not for children under 13 and does not knowingly keep their data. If you are a parent and think a child under 13 is using it, tell us and we will delete the account.
- If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must agree to you using Zen IQ. The app asks you to confirm this before you start. Parents can ask us at any time to see or delete their child’s data.
What we keep
- Your account: if you sign in with Google, your name, email address and profile picture (nothing else from Google). As a guest, only a random ID.
- Your course: your year, subjects, maths tier, exam dates and study plan.
- What you make and do: chats with the tutor, notes, flashcard sets, quizzes, papers you sit, your answers and marks, photos and files you add, focus sessions.
- Usage: how many messages, calls and pictures you used each day and what they cost, so the free limits work and the app can pay its bills.
- Feedback and reports you send us, and reports about shared links.
- On your device: the app keeps settings and your place in the app in your browser’s storage so it opens fast. We use no advertising or tracking cookies and no analytics services.
Tutor calls: your voice goes live to the AI so Zehan or Maya can answer. Calls are not recorded. The words of a call are only kept if you save the call as a note.
We do not collect your location, your contacts, or anything from other apps.
Why we use it
- To give you the app you asked for: answering, marking, making notes and sets, keeping your work and plan. (Contract, at your request.)
- Because you, and a parent if you are under 18, agreed to it when you started. (Consent, which you can withdraw: see Your rights.)
- To keep students safe and the app working: stopping misuse, fixing problems, keeping costs under control.
- Where a UAE law requires it.
We never sell your data, never show adverts, never build advertising profiles, and never use your data for any purpose other than running Zen IQ.
Who can see it
- You.
- The Zen IQ team (one person, the administrator) can read your work and chats, only to keep students safe, fix problems and keep costs in check. Student data is hidden in our console unless it is switched on for one of these reasons, and every time it is, the reason and each student opened are written to a log that cannot be changed or deleted. It is private, but it is not end-to-end encrypted.
- People you share with: if you share a set, note or paper by link, anyone with the link can see that one copy until you stop sharing it. Shared copies never include your answers or progress.
- The services that run Zen IQ for us, only to do that job:
- Google (Firebase): sign-in, the database, file storage and the website.
- Google (Gemini, through Vertex AI and the Gemini API): the AI that answers, marks, writes and speaks. What you type, photograph, upload or say is sent to it to get an answer.
- Cloudflare: Zen’s server, which passes requests to the AI and counts the limits. It does not keep what you write.
- OpenRouter: a backup AI used only if Gemini is down. It is set to send requests only to providers that do not keep or train on them.
These services act on our instructions. Under the terms for paying apps like Zen IQ, Google does not use what you send to train its AI.
We would only give data to anyone else if a UAE law or court required it, or to protect someone in danger.
Where it is kept
These services keep and process data on servers that may be outside the UAE, for example in the United States or Europe. They protect it with encryption while it travels and while it is stored, access controls, and contracts that limit what they may do with it. You agree to this transfer when you start using Zen IQ.
How long we keep it
- Your work and account: while you have an account. When you delete your account (You, then Delete my account), your chats, notes, sets, papers, marks, files, photos, plan and profile are deleted straight away.
- Cost records (which AI was used and what it cost, with no name, email or content) are kept up to 2 years for our accounts.
- Feedback and reports are kept up to 12 months.
- These are deleted automatically, every day, once they pass those ages.
- Limits and blocks stay attached to the account ID, so deleting an account cannot be used to dodge a block.
Your rights
Under UAE law you, and a parent or guardian for a student under 18, can:
- see and get a copy of your data: You, then Privacy, then Download my data;
- correct it: most of it you can change in the app, or ask us;
- delete it: You, then Delete my account;
- withdraw consent at any time, by deleting your account or asking us;
- object to or restrict how we use it, or ask about anything decided automatically, such as an AI mark (marks and predicted grades are estimates to help you study and never decide anything about you);
- complain to the UAE Data Office if you think we got it wrong. Please tell us first, so we can fix it.
Write to privacy@zen-iq.net. It is free, and we reply within one month.
Keeping students safe
- The AI tutors follow safety rules set on Zen’s server: they refuse sexual, violent, hateful or dangerous content, and if a student mentions self-harm, abuse or being unsafe, they tell them to speak to a trusted adult or the school counsellor today, and to call 999 in an emergency.
- Anything harmful can be reported: the flag under any answer, Send feedback, or Report on a shared link. We act on reports quickly, and report illegal content involving children to the UAE authorities as the law requires.
- There is no chat between students, no public profiles, and no adverts.
Security
Sign-in is by Google. Every account can only reach its own data, enforced by tested database rules, and AI keys are kept on our server, never in the app. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach ever put your data at risk we would tell you and the UAE Data Office.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, the app will ask you to read and agree again before you carry on.
